Ancestors of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians settled in the Palm Springs area centuries ago and developed complex communities in the Palm, Murray, Andreas, Tahquitz, Snow Creek and Chino Canyons. Mirroring the migration stories of the Cahuilla, archaeological research has proven that humans have occupied the Tahquitz Canyon area for at least 2, 000 years. We will walk in the footsteps of these Indians ancestors, and learn how they lived off this harsh environment, and how they lived as a people. The Cahuilla Indian name for the Palm Springs area was Sec-he (boiling water); the Spanish in turn named it Agua Caliente (hot water). The hot spring waters provided the Cahuilla with clean water, a place for bathing. The hot spring's waters were also utilized for healing purposes. There's only one way to see a natural fan palm osias, and that's with Vayable of Palm Springs.............
We'll start the day at the The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum. It inspires people to learn about the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and other Native cultures. After that we will head to the four major canyons, Palm, Murray, Andreas, Tahquitz, just to name a few. In Andreas Canyon we will get out and do a little nature walk, it's the only canyon that has water running though it year round. If you want we can picnic up in this beautiful natural fan palm oasis. After that we'll head to the world's largest fan palm oasis, and again do another little nature walk. We'll visit the "Trading Post". We'll head to Tahquitz Canyon, and I will tell you about the legend of "Tahquitz". After this exciting day, we'll need the Hot Springs.
