About Art in Berlin
Berlin is a city with over 300 galleries, museums and theaters. It has numerous parks, gardens and city markets. In addition to German, over 200 languages are spoken in the city. Finally, Berlin is a designated UNESCO city of design.
From 1961 to 1989 the city was divided into two by the Berlin Wall. The nation of Germany had been split into two after the defeat of Germany at the battle of Berlin, which ended World War II. To prevent the expected mass exodus of East German citizens to the west, the wall was erected. Upon the fall of the Berlin Wall, West Germany and the German Democratic Republic were reunited. The previous title of capital city was taken back from Bonn and given to the city of Berlin.
Christmas is celebrated on the 24th of December.
